For a system that I have owned for almost 2 years, it is still speedy and totally reliable. (OK a lightening strike took out the built in NIC, but you can't blame the system for that).

Initial fault with video not always starting up properly was cured with a driver update from ATI.

I configured my 8400 with Raid 1 rather than Raid 0, it slows the hard drive access down a bit but gives you fault tolerance. Even so never had a failure. The CD/DVD drives work great. RAID technology on a home computer (once only available to corporate servers) is amazing. I can't believe others here are disappointed.

Inserting a USB drive into the front USB slot access is awkward at best. The case design in this regard is stupid. The 9200's are much better.

Best home computer I have had. Never needed to call for help or support.

I may upgrade to a newer system once Vista comes out, but no reason to do so otherwise, it has plenty of life left in it. This system checks out as OK with the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, but buying a new system would make more sense than upgrading the OS IMO.

I've had my Dell 8400 since 2004, and I have zero complaints. As someone who is technically inclined when it comes to computers, I have maintained this machine well. The one time where I needed to call Dell's customer service, I received prompt attention to my problem (even from India) and had a replacement memory module shipped to me within 3 days. All of it painless. I would suggest this PC to anyone that was asking - even if Dell no longer makes this particular model.
FLAWLESS

I've owned a dell for 3 years now. its a dimension 4500s. ive never had a problem and its the fastest pc ive ever used. i upgraded the hard drive, and the speed has boosted about 32 percent. i suggest that you buy a dell pc somewhere else than dell because they charge you at least $200 more. btw im not a kid, i didnt feel like making an account
Dell Is The Best Brand From The Factory

I have owned about 25 Dell Desktop computers. Many of the computers came from Ebay. Some were brand new from the Dell Company. Dell computers are very easy to change and modify. Many people try to change what Mr.Dell made and the result is really bad. Folks need to leave the computer as it was made-and use it for what it was intended. Be very careful if you are buying a used Dell computer because many folks are unable to keep their hands out of the case. All of these "experts" think they know more than the folks that designed and built the machines. I love Dell because they are built well and will run for years if you leave them as they were built and designed.
