Spec Check
  • 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8300 processor
  • 750 GB hard drive
  • 8 GB RAM (8 GB maximum)
  • Combo Blu-ray Disc Read-Only and DVD±R drive
  • Quad-mode Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
  • Nvidia GeForce 9600 GS graphics (up to 2558 MB total)
  • Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit, SP1)

The Basics

  • Processor: With four execution cores, the 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8300 blows through processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments and makes the most of highly threaded applications. Part of Intel's "Penryn" line of 45nm processors, it features new hafnium-infused circuitry to reduce electrical current leakage in transistors and help this desktop run cooler. It also features Intel Trusted Execution Technology, which provides hardware-based mechanisms that help protect against software-based attacks and protects the confidentiality and integrity of data stored or created on the client PC.

Whether you're creating multimedia, annihilating your gaming enemies, or running compute-intensive applications at one time, new quad-core processing will change the way you do everything. The Q8300 has a top-of-the-line 1333 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 4 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

You get four dedicated, physical threads help operating systems and applications deliver additional performance that enhance multi-tasking and multi-threaded performance across many types of applications and work loads. The Smart Memory Access feature improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed. The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications. And with the Intel 64 Architecture, the processor can access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel 64 Architecture can allow the use of extended virtual and physical memory.

  • Hard Drive: The ginormous 750 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

This desktop also includes a drive bay that fits an optional HP Pocket Media Drive, which enables you to add up to 160 GB of additional storage. The Pocket Media Drive also works with any USB-enabled PC, for easy transferring of multimedia files from other computers in your home.

  • Memory: The 8 GB of installed RAM (PC6400) helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. It also offers a fast 800 MHz speed. The 8 GB of RAM maximizes this desktop's capacity.

  • DVD/CD Drive: This HP desktop is capable of playing back Blu-ray Disc movies in stunning clarity, as well as playing your current library of purchased and burned disc content. This desktop can also write standard DVD and CD media. The BD drive offers up to 6x speeds for reading BD-R/RE discs. It also offers the following write speeds for standard DVD and CD discs: 4x DVD±R DL, 16x for single-layer DVD±R, 8x DVD-RW, 6x DVD-RW, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 5x for DVD-RAM.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).

Has everything I need and is fast.

I just bought this computer from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. It arrived on time in good shape. Set up was easy with no issues. I researched various computers and found this HP was the best priced for what is offered. I was especially interested in the HDMI out and the built in wireless card. I running it direct through a cable modem now but I may move it to the bed room and run it from my home network linked to a HDTV at some point in the future. I was primarily interested in a Media Center PC configuration that offers the flexibility to go wireless. I was not interested in a TV tuner. Other HP models offer this option for a few hundred dollars more. This one has plenty of power and speed. It runs quite and cool. The quad core processor should handle my needs for years to come. I am very satisfied so far.
Core2 Quad Media Center PC as advertised with very reasonable price

UPDATE:

Customers planning on upgrading to Windows 7 should be aware of the fact that this Core2Quad Q8200 Intel CPU WILL NOT support Windows XP running in Virtual Mode of Windows 7. This could be a real deal breaker for those who plan to get away from Vista and benefit by running Windows XP in virtual mode. Most people purchasing this level machine are willing to upgrade the video cards, tuners and other small hardware, but very few will want to upgrade the CPU on such an inexpensive machine.

This HP meets all the RAM and OS requirements for running Windows XP in virtual mode while using Windows 7. This Q8000 Intel CPU does not! It is possible that Intel may change the design of the Q8000 series to support this Windows XP virtual mode after May 2009.

This could be a real deal breaker for some. I wish I had purchased a Q9300 series or other Intel or AMD CPU machine which specifically supported this feature in Windows 7.

I will now have to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 or Vista on this machine, or go to a backup machine. Dual booting instead of running Windows XP in virtual mode can be problematic. If you intend to get Windows 7 (and I think almost everyone will run away from Vista as soon as possible), AND you want to also run your Windows XP programs and hardware while in Windows 7, make sure your AMD or Intel CPU supports this Windows feature. Those who do not intend to run Windows XP in virtual mode under the new Windows 7 OS will be content with this rig.

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate can be had free (for one year)from Microsoft, along with the supporting Windows XP virtual mode for those CPU's supporting. Windows 7 (which could be called service release 3 of Vista)will be a must have to all who plan on abandoning Vista itself.

On a positive note, I found the free 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate easily installed, found all drivers and even the new TV/FM tuner and other hardware I added to this machine better than Vista itself! I even get better reception and more HD TV channels over the air than I did using Vista on the same computer with the same antenna! The Windows Media Center "set up" under Windows 7 and many changes and new features correct many problems and deficiencies of Vista itself.

I have not otherwise altered my initial review which follows:

Purchased at J&R, although I spent much time reading these Amazon reviews first. J&R price and Shipping was great as always. Had concerns because there were many complaining about fan noise of the NVidia GForce 9500GS. Had no such problem, in fact this box is the most quiet I have ever had.

I have always built my own PC before. After a week at Newegg and Tiger Direct, I found I could not possibly buy the parts separate and build a similar machine without paying over $200.00 more and expending the labor to assemble it.

This is at the low end of HP's Media PC's. HP Media PC's with AMD CPU's are of course less expensive than Intel Core2 HP has the largest selection with the most varied prices of Media PC's by far. With 8 Gig RAM, 64bit Vista OS this box can do all your home office chores as well as serve as an inexpensive Media Center.

Yeah Vista is slow and a pain. And there are some additional Vista compatibility problems with runing a Vista 64 bit instead of 32 bit.

However, when you weigh the advanced Vista features (search, Windows Media Center support and a few other Vista OS advances) Vista still comes out better than Windows XP for a new computer with new devices and maximum RAM and 64bit. This is especially true when Windows 7 will be available for free for a year starting May 5 2009. Keep Windows XP on your older backup machine, or dual boot Vista and Windows XP until Windows 7 is released.

This is not a "gaming machine." This was the only HP I could find with an old PCI slot to fit my Digital TV/FM Tuner. I just added the tuner, a blu ray player, and this HP works perfectly.
Great machine, (and I usually build my own)

Fast, Hi. cap. storage (I also added a 1 TB external)and 8 GB of RAM make this a steal of a deal. I have had zero issues with Vista, and wouldn't go back to XP. Period. I am a photo. editor and this is all the machine I need to run 64 bit Lightroom and 64 bit Photoshop.
I really haven't found a single thing bad to say about it yet. I bought it in about December.
I was going to build my own (again) until I researched this one. I couldn't get close to the specs. of this one for the same money.
Works very nicely

This is a really nice computer; I have not had any of the problems that others have reported. It runs silently and does not run hot at all. Very fast, lots of memory, and I got a 22" screen so its visually very appealing. Games run very well as do blue ray movies. I had some issues with the TV tuner at first, but realized my signal was a little weak...worked it out after a day or so. Also has tons of storage and is easily expandable with HP "media drives" (which work with other computers too) as they are just USB. All-in-all I'm happy so far.
Excellent computer and a real bargain

This computer does pretty much what I want and then some. It seems to be carefully built, and the 8GB of RAM and the quad processor are way more powerful than I need. My own quibbles are with Vista, SP-1. Due to the "horsepower" of my computer, I do not notice any lack of speed in Vista overall, although boot-up is still slow. However, there are lots of quirky warning and nagging screens, many of which you can turn off. Yes, there are some hated blue screens, most of which have a work-around with either Vista or HP drivers. In particular, I had a real problem getting an HP television tuner to run without a blue screen of death. Granted, the tuner was from my three year old HP laptop, but still this should have not been much of a problem. My other problem was getting Vista to recognize a three year old Maxtor external hard drive. Finally, I am one of the idiots that still uses Palm's OS (Centro phone) and with the 64 bit Vista you simply cannot get Palm to Hot Sync with the computer unless you use Bluetooth, and I still do not have that running right. IE Explorer 8 still has plenty of problems. Adoble Flash Player will not download with the 64 bit IE 8 editions. It will download with the 32 bit IE 8, but IE 8 will not recognize this! That is just ridiculous. I paired my computer with the HP 2159m, a 21.5 inch full HD monitor which is spectacular. Also, the HP support system present on the computer and online is very good. Finally, the HP Easy Backup is about as easy to use as Apple's Time Machine, which had been the best backup system I had seen to date. I recommend this computer, particularly for the money. The only problem you will have is with Vista, and you just have to be a little bit "techy" to get past some of the problems there. If you are not in a hurry, wait for Windows 7.

A Really Touching Experience

Review Date: July 23, 2008
Reviewer: D. Gray,
I have had this PC for only one week, but remain wowed by HP's execution. From setup (easy and intuitive; far fewer wires than a traditional desktop) through operation (responsive and stable), my early experience has truly been a joy.

The 22" touchscreen display is extremely bright, vivid, and crisp. The touchscreen functionality itself takes advantage of Vista's "baked in" tablet PC functionality. As a longtime tablet user, this is the first implementation and integration of the Vista tablet functionality on a desktop that I am aware of. The touchscreen functionality clearly works best with HP's own "TouchSmart" application shell. This shell has been designed to work well with touchscreen functionality and provides an easy-to-use interface to music, video, calendar, photo, and game applications (among others). There's even a specialized TouchSmart web browser, though it appears to have limited utility to those web pages that HP has specifically designed to take advantage of the TouchSmart shell. This might appear alarming, but you still have full and complete access outside of TouchSmart to traditional browsers such as IE, Firefox, or Safari.

I have no problems to report with the integration of my existing peripherals, including a Netgear wireless router, a Canon Pixma multifunction printer, and external speakers and subwoofer. Setup of all of these truly was "plug and play." I also really like the wireless keyboard and mouse that HP bundles with the TouchSmart.

The only problem I've encountered is installation of Nikon's Transfer application (for transfer of digital photos from my wife's Coolpix camera). Each of three installation attempts ended with an Install Wizard error message. I learned from Nikon Support that none of Nikon's apps are engineered for 64-bit operating systems. However, there are still multiple options for uploading photos from the camera (e.g., Kodak's free EasyShare application works great).

Overall and as an IT professional, I am surprised even by my own enthusiastic reaction. Over time, the "wow" or "gee-whiz" moments with PC technology have become fewer and farther between for me. The HP TouchSmart is an exception to this. For general purpose home computing (it's not a gaming platform or a high-end engineering workstation), it merits your serious consideration.
Very happy after three weeks

I am very happy with the HP IQ506 PC. I bought it because it is an All in One and I don't use it as a touch screen. I played with the touch screen and it seems to work fine with the limited software provided.

The screen is bright in all lighting conditions and looks very good.

The built in wireless N works well.

The wireless KeyBoard and mouse have worked without any problems. The KeyBoard is very flat and takes some getting used to if you have been using a more conventional KB.

The built in speakers sound good for being so small, much better than expected.

With the 500 GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk, 22" Screen, 5 USB ports, and 4 GB memory it is a very good value.

The only things I would change are; I would add a CF reader and an option to select XP instead of Vista.
Simply clean, fast and beautiful computer

I use to work on Mac and other good computers and must say that this HP is surprising! It's above any iMac (I can't prevent myself from comparing it to an iMac because of the design and the fact it's all integrated into the screen) offering the power of a good mid/up class PC (including Macs) without the huge heavy and often ugly box, at a reasonnable price... and plus you have a touch screen!
Two months ago I tried the entry level TouchSmart (I think it was the iQ504 ?) at the shop and was actually disapointed by the graphic board. But everything else was seducing : screen is great, bright, beautiful. Lovely touchscreen, keyboard and mouse are really nice, etc... so I wanted to know more about that fancy new HP and make sure there's not a way to tune it (like to replace the GPU, and so on).
But then I discovered that HP used a cheap integrated graphic board (the Intel Graphics something) based on their mainstream crap for the less expansive 504. But I quickly saw that the iQ506 had an nVidia GeForce GPU and a Core 2 Duo CPU !
So I decided to order one and here it is.
The first thing I would say against this computer is that the TouchSmart applications are a bit slow when you launch them. But to continue the comparaison it is not as slow as using the finder or Photoshop on an iMac.
The second thing would be : MORE, PLEASE ! We want more touchscreen, even multitouch. Because this computer is actually capable of multitouch. Indeed, when you use both fingers in the smarttouch gallery you resize the previews. So this is a bit frustrating since we feel like it could do what Apple showed us how cool it can be on the iPhone : I would like to take anything in the explorer and rotate, zoom and move it with my two hands... wouldn't you ?!

I'd like to share the idea that it's a good thing to see that 'dinos' like HPs are still in the wind and don't let smaller hardware companies like Apple take the market. I was always always wondering what these guys are waiting for to react and make good and sexy computers like Apple use to do. This opens the battle and this is always good for us consumers.
BTW I discovered recently that Apple didn't invent anything about touchscreen and multitouch, and that people at Microsoft, Xerox and some other companies have been the actual pioneers... so once again it's good to see some competition here, that will give us the choice and hopefully democratize the touchscreen!
The next dream would be that HP (or any other) sell a generic LCD screen that would have some good touchscreen capability and drivers for Vista and Mac OS...

I did not think I was ever going to purchase a desktop again until I saw the commercial for the HP IQ506 Touchsmart PC. Before purchasing this desktop I read many reviews on the product from different sites and found many good reviews. Once I received the computer and turned it on I was in love! The sound quality of the speakers is great. So good in fact that I did not need to purchase additional speakers. The picture quality is amazing and I love the 22" size screen. I saw a movie on it for the first time and was impressed with the picture quality. The only downside is that I spend a lot more time on the computer now. The touchscreen software was very user friendly and I mastered it in no time. The wireless mouse and keyboard are a nice standard touch and the remote control is a Plus. Overall, I am quite impressed with this product and have nothing negative to say about it thus far.
A dream come true for a home computer

I bought the Sam's Club HP Touchsmart 505 almost as soon as I saw it. Liked the price. Took half an hour to set up (took longer to unhook my old HP Pavilion Slimline set up). Only problem was loading printer CD, worked when I copied the software from my old computer. Otherwise, I love it, perfect for my modest sized desk at home - great for basic photos, music, internet browsing, etc. Tried touchscreen for about 20 minutes, got bored, not a good position when set upright, mousing is just as easy, faster and keeps the screen cleaner. 62 and downsizing to essentially a studio and this is great for my modest living quarters.

I have been looking for a good middle to high end PC that has enough muscle behind it for video editing and games yet is not complicated to setup or operate. I have been a diehard XP user for years so I was a bit skeptical getting a PC with Vista....but this computer is a beast! Right out of the box she was easy to setup and connect to my home wireless network.....I easily downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird (Im not a fan of IE) and ran with it! Im not going to quote specs or details because you can easily see that on Amazon...processor speed, hardrive space, memory....its all perfect! Plenty of USB ports, HDMI, Blu-Ray....you name it!

  • 2.3 GHz AMD Athlon X2 4450e+ dual-core processor
  • 250 GB hard drive
  • 3 GB RAM (4 GB maximum)
  • Dual-layer Lightscribe DVD±R drive
  • Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE graphics (up to 1343 MB total)
  • Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

The Basics

  • Processor: AMD's Athlon X2 4450e+ dual-core processor: Dual-core technology is like having two processors working together, each one taking care of different applications, so power-users actually experience greater performance when multiple applications are running. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements while simultaneously working in high-definition video and photo editing and audio mixing programs. It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Enhanced Virus Protection.

This 2.3 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  • Hard Drive: The generous 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive has a 3Gb/s interface speed that enables up to 300MB/s data transfer rates (double the speed of the current SATA interface of 1.5Gb/s).

  • Memory: The 3 GB of installed RAM (1 x 1 G, 1 x 2 GB; PC2-6400) will more than satisfy your multimedia needs, but you still have room to add more RAM to handle today's demanding computational needs. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 2 GB). It also offers a lightning quick 800 MHz RAM speed.

  • DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 12x DVD±R DL Write Once, 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 12x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.

This LightScribe DVD±RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with a Compaq keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE graphics/video card with 128 MB of dedicated graphics memory. Windows Vista can also allocate up to 1343 MB of total graphics memory from the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
For expansion, this desktop has two PCI slots (one available), one PCI Express x16 slot (available), one PCI Express x1 slot (available), two 5.25-inch bays (one available), three 3.5-inch bays (two available). It comes with the following external connections:

  • 6 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (2 in front, 4 in rear)
  • 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 headphone (front)
  • 1 microphone/line-in/line-out (rear)

You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. Review of HP Pavilion Elite e9160f

Review Date: October 17, 2009
Reviewer: Harry Mclean, Fort Collins, CO
The product arrived and has worked very well - even with Vista installed. It has lots of RAM (8GB), a very large hard drive (1TB), along with 64Bit bus so it is very fast. I have a lot of USB devices connected and all seems to be doing well. Can't wait to get Windows 7 installed. This is the best PC I have ever owned (I only buy HP) and would highly recommend it.
Still Running Flawlessly

My HP Pavilion Elite e9160f is still running flawlessly after about 4 months of use. The personal media drive works great too! The graphics keep up with COH/games just fine with no heat issues or graphics card issues. The install was easy. The card readers are a great add-on. I do miss the television connection from my old Pavilion but, given the trouble free operation so far, I'll take the e9160f any day and watch TV on the TV.
Best PC for the $

I have had my 9160f for 5 months now and it is a great machine and my second HP Pavillion PC. (Yes the first one is still running strong as ever with no issues and 2 years old now) I wouldn't have been able to build a PC with these features for the same cost. It has been a stable and powerful platform that has met or exceeded all of my needs of which are video editing, gaming, online gaming, music and movies. I would seriously recommend this pc for anyone looking to purchase it though I have just read that HP has upgraded this PC to an I5 processor and in doing so changed the model number to E9260f. I would buy 2 or 3 more of these if I had the money to do so. It's a pity that other people can't figure out how to install/go around the firewire issue. Firewire really is a dying technology. I have a firewire camcorder thats 10 years old and have since upgraded to one that uses usb. Bottom line is, THIS PC IS GREAT!
So far, I`m loving it.

First a warning. My last computer`s hard drive ( another HP )died while under warrenty. After jumping through hoops with HP for 3 weeks, they refused to repair it. But I like the value of the product, so I bought another one. But this time I know the warrenty isn`t worth the paper its written on. That being said, I relly like this computer. Its fast, its quiet and usually does what I tell it to do. My only gripe is it does not come with hardly any extra software. Just the basic stuff. Oh yeah, one more gripe, it doesn`t have a Firewire port. Bottom line is I like it a lot, even with its couple of ommisions.

HP has decided to eliminate firewire ports. The company refused to supply the required adapter and their tech support team was rude and condescending. Had I known there were no firewire ports I would not have purchased this product. Caveat emptor Further discussions with their tech support are fruitless. These obnoxious, rude condescending bastards don't give a s... about customer satisfaction and have continued to stonewall about installation of a firewire card and the installation fees. I will NEVER EVER DEAL WITH HP AGAIN. The only language they understand are lawsuits and BBB complaints. They deserve as much bad publicity as possible.

This 2.6 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. This notebook has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 2 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).

Reviewer: Alphawolf,
Fast, Hi. cap. storage (I also added a 1 TB external)and 8 GB of RAM make this a steal of a deal.

We bought this in package form along with an HP monitor and printer to replace our aging desktop. It completely screams when asked to do anything multimedia related, and cruises on native MS programs like Office 2007 as well. If you really want to get some performance out of it, install OpenOffice and Firefox, as both seem to take advantage of the hardware and outperform their MS brethren by wide margins. I can't help but think what Linux would do on such a machine.

The only problem we had, and it WAS frustrating, was that a technician bent a pin in the wireless card during install. It was nothing that anyone would have noticed visually, and the system initially performed well, but after a day, the bad connection was too much and the wireless card only worked intermittently. After an all night session talking with HP Service in India, I located the problem. A new wireless card, free of charge and with straight pins, fixed the situation. I can't hold it against HP. The card initially worked on start-up, so it probably passed the bench tests. These things happen, even at Apple and Dell. HP's customer service was patient and effective, and the new part arrived in 2 days.

Overall, incredible machine. By our "Performance Gadget," we haven't even begun to max the processor or RAM out, even with the latest versions of Pinnacle Studio, OpenOffice, and MusicMaker.
entire HP 6000 computer line

PLEASE READ THIS: It's important that when you all review which computer you purchased that you please state what model you bought. Amazon is taking all the reviews for the entire 6000 series, and merging them into one row of reviews. (Check a6700f, 6720f, 6750f and so on). It's a great idea to shop around, and see what other people are saying on the computer you're purchasing, to see if everything coincides with one another. By having reviews merged what one person experienced may not be the case with the other.

I originally bought this computer to replace a laptop and an older HP desktop that I was currently using. The thing that jumped out at me was the price and the quad-core. I was weary about using Vista, especially 64-bit but it works better than expected.

The first issue people have been having: drivers. I had absolutely none. Whatever I throw at this computer it finds the drivers (whether online or within the system already) and have had no issues. I'm not sure what kind of hardware other people have been using but I've tried different monitors, gaming hardware, printers, sound cards, video cards. No issues. So, can't complain there.

Secondly, the amount of bloatware is quite annoying at first. I got rid of it all because it only slows the system down and causes more frustration than necessary. The computer loads up fairly quickly once you remove the bloatware off of it.

Thirdly, the power supply is not sufficient for most add-ons so it was the first thing to go. I bought a 650W power supply along with a Nvidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3. The Windows Experience Score went up from a 4.3 to a 6.0 at this point. Absolutely amazing.

This computer plays Halo, Crysis, World of Warcraft, and any Flight Simulator version smoothly. Haven't had one issue. I can easily use TeamSpeak, Internet Explorer, iTunes, and FSX all at the same time. If anyone doesn't know, FSX will completely KILL a computer if it's not ready for it and this beast does well.

I'd have to say I'm happy with the overrall performance. Disk defrags take no time at all. Virus scans are quick (even full scans). Downloading takes absolutely no time at all and is a huge improvement from using a Intel Duo Core. 8GB of ram is more than enough as I haven't seen it use more than 6GB at a time. And, like mentioned before, it shines when multi-tasking. It's pretty neat to watch it sort out tasks for certain processors.
An excellent buy especially at this price

Reviewer: couldbeyou,
In my opinion this machine has many positives and very few negatives. Positives: The price is inexpensive, the machine is quiet, Its not a phenom II but it is a phenom. Very nice quad core product. It has 8 GB of memory more than enough to handle any vista. (I'm testing windows 7 and I won't need it on this machine.) Even the keyboard is better than most budget (not software loaded- you can buy it yourself cheaper anyway machines). I combed through amazon for something under a 1000 and I'm happy to say this tops the rest. Actually I can't think of a hardware feature making the price over 1000 worth it. Maybe a faster processor although AMD doesn't make a whole lot of them.

The performance rating on this machine for vista. Processor 5.9, memory 5.9, hard disk 5.9 (has 3/4 of a terrabyte)graphics for aero 4.3 gaming graphics 4.0.
Total base score 4.0

* based on a maximum base score of 5.0 at vistas release.

A couple of quick negatives: Ahh, Not an intel processor quad, have to buy your own monitor, there are video cards out there that will give vista a higher score. Be ready for a bombardment of trial offers.
fast w/low power consumption

I purchased one of these a couple of months ago and have been very happy with it. I however wish it had come with Linux pre-installed because I installed Debian Linux and did away with Windows Vista, which unfortunately was included in the price. The machine is speedy and performs well at everything I've asked it to do. The computer is certified as a low power computer. A kill-a-watt meter indicates that it idles at about 43 watts, which is a huge savings over a machine I used to own that consumed over 100 watts. So the average user should be able to save on their electricity bill using this desktop.
